This book provides an overview of the aviation sector by focusing on all major aspects embedded in the environment (subsystems) and the market of aviation. The book explains the linkages between subsystems politics, society, technology, economy, environment, and regulation, and how these subsystems influence each other and the market. The book starts by describing the aviation system, then focuses on the supply side and the demand side of the system and in a final part focuses on steering and controlling the system of aviation from a managerial, economic, and regulatory perspective.
Examples and case studies of airports, airlines, and the production industry in each chapter support the application-oriented approach. The summary and review questions help the reader to understand the focus and main messages of each chapter. Students and researchers in business administration with a focus on aviation, as well as professionals in the industry looking to refresh or broaden their knowledge in the field will benefit from this book.

This book examines how insufficient policies can lead to the alleged abuse of power in organisations. When independent ethical structures and processes are missing or weak, practices of abuse, misconduct and cover-ups can easily arise at the leadership level. Even organisations that specialise in good governance are no exception, as illustrated by this case study on arguably the world's most influential anti-corruption NGO, Transparency International (TI).
This open access book is a consolidation of lessons learnt and experiences gathered from our efforts to utilise Earth observation (EO) science and applications to address environmental challenges in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. It includes a complete package of knowledge on service life cycles including multi-disciplinary topics and practically tested applications for the HKH. It comprises 19 chapters drawing from a decade's worth of experience gleaned over the course of our implementation of SERVIR-HKH - a joint initiative of NASA, USAID, and ICIMOD - to build capacity on using EO and geospatial technology for effective decision making in the region.
We hope that this book will be a good reference document for professionals and practitioners working in remote sensing, geographic information systems, regional and spatial sciences, climate change, ecosystems, and environmental analysis. Furthermore, we are hopeful that policymakers, academics, and other informed audiences working in sustainable development and evaluation - beyond the wider SERVIR network and well as within it - will greatly benefit from what we share here on our applications, case studies, and documentation across cross-cutting topics.
"When will my turn come? Didn't we agree that both our careers were equally important?"
Sound familiar? All too often, one career takes precedence over the other, and the dreams of a dual career marriage disintegrate into dust. And it's even more complicated if you are globally mobile. Juggling two careers with multiple moves - and perhaps a family - can be fraught with difficulties.
Yvonne Quahe, sociologist, coach and HR professional, has spent the last 30 years living abroad as a globally mobile accompanying partner - and the last 13 developing programs for dual career families. In this powerful book, she maps out the common pitfalls and explains with refreshing clarity how to avoid them. Her trailblazing CARE Code (Clarify, Assess, Refocus, Explore) offers a framework for systematic dialogue to transform the way you - and HR professionals - approach the complex challenges faced by Dual Career Couples.
Packed with case studies, research and practical exercises, Whose Career - Yours, Mine or Ours? will guide you toward more productive conversations and, ultimately, to making the best decision for you and your careers.
If you and your partner are considering a global assignment, are in a dual career crisis or looking to renegotiate career prioritization in your relationship, this book is for you.
On a global scale, women are changing the trajectory of their lives as they make the decision to step into their power and leave their mark on the world. No longer are they striving for success in only one or two areas of their lives; they are choosing to have it all-without external expectation or restrictions.
These women have travelled difficult paths that have tested their resolve in achieving their goals (specifically in the field of entrepreneurship), but not once have these obstacles proven to distract from their vision.
They've each very consciously decided to become the very best versions of themselves, and whilst on their journey, they've transformed into Women of Influence.
"Women of Influence" presents 12 women, all of whom tell their individual stories as they travel towards their own definition of success. Although unique, they all recognise in one another the determination and strength needed to leave an impact on the world, while changing the preconception of what it means to be a woman adopting a multitude of roles in a fast-paced world-and the perceived limitations.
Encouraging ladies across the world to stay focused on their vision as they build their dreams and businesses, "Women of influence" emphasises the power we have in moving out of our past and into our future with the aim of shaping the world through focused impact, business improvement and positive change.
Not all markets are alike: the European entrepreneur requires knowledge on how to avoid pitfalls before believing and focusing on opportunity. European Venture Toolbox features the leadership toolkit future decision makers, innovators, and entrepreneurs need to build a venture in Europe.
Many European entrepreneurs are prone to the rhetoric of company building based on fast-growing start-up survivors, abundance of circulating capital, and sub-optimal business models monetizing late. They fall into the trap of thinking a mildly successful company can survive in the European ecosystem even if it does not thrive. This toolbox provides a framework to assess risk and return of choices, iteratively implement business, and avoid being blinded by incorrect principles not grounded in financial reality.
European Venture Toolbox: The path for SMEs to grasp and defend opportunities is a compelling book for all small-to-medium enterprises. Written by a theoretician and a practitioner, it captures Europe-specific perspectives, examples, and case studies to provide an alternative insight.
The Entrepreneurial Behaviour series is focused on expanding the scope of Entrepreneurial Behaviour theory and analysis and enriching practice by encouraging multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary approaches.
The stirrings of reform or more of the same? U.S. Housing Policy, Politics, and Economics shares a stark and urgent message. With a new president in the White House and the economy emerging from its peak pandemic lows, the time is right for transformative federal housing legislation--but only if Congress can transcend partisan divides. Drawing on nearly a century of legislative and policy data, this briefing for scholars and professionals quantifies the effects of Democratic or Republican control of the executive and legislative branches on housing prices and policies nationwide. It exposes the lasting consequences of Congress' more than a decade of failure to pass meaningful housing laws and makes clear just how narrow the current window for action is. Equal parts analysis and call to arms, U.S. Housing Policy, Politics, and Economics is essential reading for everyone who cares about affordable, accessible housing.
China's new retail revolution will completely transform how the world thinks about retail and digital innovation. But is the world ready yet? In this book, the authors share an insider's perspective on what is happening in China to reveal the future for global retail, and a clear framework to help you prepare.
The book presents a number of real-world cases, based on interviews and first-hand consumer experience, to decode China's retail revolution so that you can understand what is happening and why, and what it means for the rest of the world. Crucially, the book identifies five critical stages in the development of new retail that global retail executives need to grasp now: lifestyle commerce, Online-Merge-Offline retail, social retail, livestream retail and invisible retail. To help the industry get ready for this new, China-inspired paradigm in retail, the authors present a practical and simple framework - a ten-year strategic roadmap for global retail executives, which we call the "Beyond" the Value Chain Model.
China's new retail is not just about fashion, cosmetics, snacks, data-driven convenient stores and commercial live streaming. At a time when the world of retail is being upended, it offers inspirational lessons in innovation, purpose and agility for global executives across the entire retail spectrum.
This book sets out to provide postgraduate researchers with guidance on selecting and applying socio-technical theories to the study of information systems, including how they can be combined to complement each other. Until now it has been difficult to source advice on the application of these theories, and there has been no single book that combines multiple theories as this does.
Examining the impacts of technological developments and seeking to understand how humans interact with computers and systems is a dynamic field but can often confuse researchers with the overwhelming number of social theories that are utilised to derive insights. Instead, the author in this book breaks down some of the most popular theories used to underpin information system research, such as activity theory (AT), actor-network theory (ANT), contingency theory (CT), diffusion of innovation (DOI), structuration theory (ST), and the technology acceptance model (TAM). By doing so, this book serves to enable a simpler, faster selection of appropriate theories, and a more effective and productive application that leads to richer, more rigorous research outcomes.
Written for postgraduates, researchers and academics in the fields of information technology and information systems, this book provides a valuable resource of socio-technical research methodologies that will enable and enhance future studies.
